The Client is a leading Financial Consulting and Tax Planning Company in the U.S

The Need

Sought to streamline their tax filing and financial consulting processes by developing a user-friendly portal. This portal needed to facilitate efficient access management for both internal and external stakeholders, reducing reliance on email for data sharing.

Challenge

Financial domain operations involved intricate questionnaires and forms, incorporating complex conditional logic. Additionally, they desired to provide PowerBI reports to their customers without requiring individual PowerBI licenses. Achieving this required customizing the portals to support Embedded reports using liquid scripting. Furthermore, different user roles needed to be assigned for each customer account, necessitating careful planning of permission mapping within the portal.

Solution

Star Knowledge proposed the implementation of Power Apps Portals, enabling the customer to effectively manage their requirements. The solution allowed external users to access the portal via Azure AD, LinkedIn, or Google login. A custom form was created within the portal, accommodating the complex conditional logic required for data capture.

This data served as input for the customer’s current year data analysis and facilitated trend analysis across multiple years. The solution entailed custom branding, a role-based menu, liquid page templates, a dashboard page, and a reporting page. These features allowed administrators to create and manage reports while enabling users to view questionnaires and other relevant information.

 Embedded PowerBI reports were integrated into the portal, granting customers access to their report data based on their roles. Additionally, the portal’s configuration encompassed data storage, portal settings, email settings, and multi-factor authentication/self-service password reset.

Benefits

The successful implementation resulted in a comprehensive external-facing portal where customers could log in with role-based controls, while internal users utilized their existing licenses. Customers gained access to their specific data, ensuring data privacy and security.

The data structure was designed to facilitate capturing inputs within PowerBI, enabling efficient data analysis. The portal also included a self-serve management feature, allowing users to reset passwords and manage their accounts as needed.

The menu and design were customized using CSS and liquid templates, providing a personalized and intuitive user experience. Lastly, the integration of PowerBI embedded reports eliminated the need for customers to possess individual PowerBI licenses.
