The Client

A mid-sized IT consulting and Microsoft Cloud Service Provider company in Las Vegas, USA engages Star Knowledge to connect their on-premises telephony infrastructure to Microsoft Teams.

The Need

The client needed a unified communication system for improved business collaboration. They wanted to enable Microsoft Teams to use their own on-premises voice infrastructure for calling outside / Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

As Microsoft Phone System Direct Routing allows us to connect a supported, customer-provided Session Border Controller (SBC) with Microsoft Phone System, companies can configure their SIP Trunk or PSTN connectivity with Microsoft Teams. With Direct Routing, you can stay with your existing telephony provider while using the calling capabilities of Microsoft Teams.

The Challenge

The direct routing capability is accessed provided the client has Microsoft Teams and Phone System as part of Office 365. The users of Direct Routing must have different licenses assigned in Office 365 and the client required an additional SBC License and External certificate for the direct routing to be performed.
