28 APR 2020
The Client
The Client is a leading IT Service Provider in the USA with 30+ years of experience on the market and offices spread across California, New York, and Illinois. The company operates with more 700 employees across the country.
The Need
The Client approached Star Knowledge with a requirement of migrating their on-premises IT infrastructure to the cloud. The client faced on-going IT difficulties with their on-prem IT infrastructure which were preventing consistent delivery of reliable services and customer support. Absence of effective IT speed and reliability had put client service in jeopardy. Therefore, the client decided to adopt a strategy of cloud migration and moving entire infrastructure to the cloud.
The infrastructure was housed in a Chicago colocation datacenter and had become slower, complicated, and unreliable. The 300+ servers and on-premises systems suffered from several support issues and their management had become a challenge. The staff were always caught-up with frequent resolution of the issues as and when they occurred which involved high cost.
The Challenge
The On-prem IT infrastructure had become outdated and the 300+ servers had to be entirely migrated without any end-user impact. The Star Knowledge’s team of Microsoft cloud migration experts had to lay out a detailed migration plan and strategy to help the client successfully transition to the Azure cloud.
The Solution
Star Knowledge provides a whole package of cloud solutions and cloud migration services with expertise around Microsoft Azure consulting and AWS consulting services. As a reliable cloud service provider, Star Knowledge collaborated with the client for a successful Azure infrastructure migration.
Our cloud migration consultants conducted a 360-degree infrastructure assessment and review and concluded that their on-prem infrastructure should be decommissioned and moved to cloud. Moving to the cloud would give the client increased up-time, the current infrastructure would be transformed into a key business differentiator, reduced downtime, and maintenance cost. Here’s how the migration was executed:
- A plan was created for sequencing, scheduling, and cutover of each workload
- Prepared migration environment – Azure Site Recover (ASR)
- Prepared migration documentation and defined migration steps
- Conducted inventory assessments
- Migration to Azure
- Decommissioning older infrastructure and servers
