The Client

The client is a large construction company in the US.

The Need

The customer had several systems under their systems portfolio and needed to evaluate their property information, project status, loan statuses, pipelines, revenues from various sources, expenditures from several departments and types of expenses, equity trackers, pursuit reports, opportunities, and vendor management reports.

The Challenge

The data sources for all the systems varied right from Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Oracle Warehouse, Yardi, Procore, and Azure Data Lakes leading to a complex data model architecture. Furthermore, the client was concerned with security and had a centralized data access and reporting application where the reports were to be individually embedded under the App’s own data model so that security-driven reporting could be done.

Solution

The solution design included defining and designing the key KPIs and reports that were published on the cloud with integrations to the existing data sources. Furthermore, the data transformation layer was defined before feeding the data from different sources into the Power BI dashboards leading to a simplified process flow. Each report had to be determined for its purpose, use cases, and KPIs from different client teams and required careful data modeling, following which the visuals were created and integrated for the various measures required.

The reports were embedded within their enterprise application via embedded analytics using the App Owns data model. Additionally, the security was driven by security groups within Azure AD and integrated with SSO for security and role-based access control. The end users didn’t need to log in to access the reports as well.

Benefits

Simplified Process flow was obtained by adding all the data to the Power BI dashboard.
Visuals of each data were created and integrated according to the requirement.
Security Concerns were mitigated by providing role-based access control.
