Client

Our client is a large public company based out of South Africa.  The client is the biggest Airport Company of the country with a network of 10 Airports.  They continue to play a dominant role in the Country’s aviation industry, handling over 98% of the country’s commercial Air Traffic.  The client is focused on creating and operating world-class airports measuring up to international standards.

Clients concocted a thought

The Client wanted to build a mobile application that would give detailed information of all the Airport of the country in precise and interactive manner.  Some of the feature which were of prime focus are

• App should be able to display all the information regarding Airports, Flights, Parking, availability of Bus, Train or Taxis to that airport
• Information regarding shopping inside the Airports
• Weather forecast
• Maps of inside the airport in interactive manner

Challenge

Some of the main challenges developing this application were:

• The challenge was to develop a native mobile application which should support the huge data required to display require information on different mobile platforms

What we proposed

• Star Knowledge Technical Team made use of Appcelerator Titanium for iOS and Android; Whereas Web works was utilized for BlackBerry Platform
• Content Management System was also built using .NET to manage the data for different category like shop and dine; At the airport; To and From the airport inside the application
• Web Services were also build using .NET to connect the Backend content to Frontend

Results & benefits obtained

The key benefits realized by the Client as a result of the successful project include:

• Mobile applications for the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Android displaying all the information about all Airports in the country in an interactive manner
• Users were able to organize their trips using the app
• All the information required for travelling was available handy
• Users were able to forecast the 7 days weather to make their travel plans
• Users were able to locate themselves anywhere inside the airport using GIS feature of the app
